Four Faith Foundations

If you've studied the Word for any period of time you have studied the subject of faith at one point or another. In that study you should have discovered that:

1. We are saved by grace through faith. (Ephesians 2:8)

2. We need faith to please God. (Hebrews 11:6)

3. We receive healing by faith. (James 5:15)

4. We must pray in faith or else fail to receive. (James 1:6-7)

5. Anything that is not faith is sin. (Romans 14:23)

6. The Gospel is only profitable to those who mix faith with it. (Hebrews 4:2)

7. Faith is our victory that overcomes the world. (I John 5:4)

These are all excellent points of truth. Yet too often we're told what we need, and even see it in the Word, yet don't know how to really grab hold of it and put it to practice in our lives. I'm going to give you four foundational building blocks that will help you in your walk of faith.

1. We must know that God cannot lie. (Titus 1:2)
If you even remotely think that God can lie, then there is doubt present. You'll trust God completely only when you believe that He cannot lie.

2. We must know the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)
If we believe that God does not lie and only speaks the truth, then it is imperative that we know what it is He says. We will find this out one way - by reading and studying the Word of God.

3. We must speak the Word of God. (Mark 11:23)
Speak to the mountains in your life. According to the written Word, our words are to contain faith. Jesus didn't "think" at the storm to calm it! No, He spoke to the wind and the waves!

4. We must act on the Word of God. (James 1:22)
If you're hearing the Word, and then don't act on it, you are self-deceived. Some have thought that it was the devil deceiving them - but this verse in James says you're deceiving yourself. Remember, faith without corresponding actions is dead or lifeless. (James 2:17)
In order for us to have faith, we must believe that God cannot lie, know what He said in His Word, speak that Word and act on what we speak. This is foundational to us having true Biblical faith.
